30 gallon display, 10 gallon display "fuge", 10 gallon sump
About your tank:
My 30 gallon display tank will be a coral tank once i get the lighting for it. It is currently home to an Antennata Lionfish, about 20 nassarius vibex snails, 3 mexican turbos, an emerald crab, a small colony of red tunicates, a sponge or 2, and some cup corals.

The 10 gallon display "fuge" is a 10 gallon TALL aquarium! It is currently home to 2 bang gai cardinals, 1 pajama cardinal, and one completely crazy false percula. It's not really a fuge since there are other fish living in it, but it should develop pods quite nicely.

Finally, the sump is a regular ol 2 chamber sump that was created by modifying a 10 gallon tank.

Instead of my favorite music, Ill list what i hate: 99% of all Rap, Country, and Spanish music.

In other news...

my lionfish lost his tail again... based on the nature of the wound, id say something got ahold of it. either the mantis shrimp that MAY be living in my aquarium, the newly added button polyps, or my large hitchiker anemone. The thing that really bugs me is that the nassarius snails are starting to try to eat him... i guess they smell the fresh meat.

today i will get an extra 10 gallon, and set up a… Continue

Algae turf scrubber

Steve and i were tossing around ideas to control cyanobacteria, and he came up with a good one: grow it in one place so it doesnt grow someplace else. Well this got us to doing our crazy DIY thing and before ya know it, we had a device to grow algae. its basically an acrylic sheet that water runs across. the sheet should serve as a home to algae and hopefully cyano.

Some Updateage

Well, this weekend i did a few things on my system. I added a deep sand bed. its about 3 - 4 inches now. I also added the button polyps that i mentioned in an earlier post. Finally, i messed around with my sump. I pulled the extra divider out (the one that used to be for the refugium) so the return pump chamber is about 8 gallons now. Now i accidentally did something pretty cool in there too.

I have a HOB filter that i placed in the sump. The thing i did though is have the intake of teh… Continue

So i added some ugly brown button corals

There were 7 polyps and the frag was $10. i couldnt say no.

In other news! ive had cyano probs as of late. what ive done is first to dose with some red slime remover. then i bought some phosban and have that running in my sump currently. the red slime remover killed teh cyano, and hopefully the phosban will keep it dead.

also soemtime today or tomorrow im going to add another few inches to my sand bed.

hey viking man man! the place is www.tampabaysaltwater.com i recommend that you get the tank cycled with a little but of LR if you have any in other displays before you put this liverock in. that way more stuff LIVES! also you will get gorilla crabs and mantis shrimp with the rock, which is bad. so be ready to spend hours catching them. oh and heres taht thread link

Hey John, Hiya.
Couldn't locate the post, but where did you get your liverock from? You had some awesome hitchhikers and I want to get something interesting in the 30.

there was not growth on it. the main problem i think was seeding it. i guess its too hard for free floating algae to grab onto the sheet while the water is rushing past. i plan to use the tub and make a slightly different one that use sand as a substrate since i KNOW cyano and diatoms love sand lol

the problem is, i dont have an extra powerhead right now to run the algae scrubber.
