since last time

This past weekend, I stopped off at That Fish Place after going to the PA Ren Faire and purchased a Coralife Pure-Flo II RO system, 50 gpd. So far it seems to work fine. Since last time I wrote, my Yellow Polyps have all but disappeared. That was what triggered me to get the new RO unit. I couldn't figure out what membrane replacement would work with the old unit, because it was a Sand Point (and they don't exist anymore, from what I can tell), and I think that something in the water I was gett… Continue

Xenia update

The pulsing Xenias not only aren't pulsing, they are all but gone to the great coral reef in the sky, at this point. Only a few visible polyps are left on two of the clumps, the other places are just smudges on their respective rocks. Xenia crash continues

No clue on what is wrong with the Xenia polyps, but I've read that they sometimes crash and burn for no good reason, and I haven't turned up anything concrete yet, unless the tank is just too warm. By the way, the tank is now lighted by LEDs, 100%. This seems to be agreeable to the fish, the mushrooms, yellow polyps, and button polyps, at least.

Uh oh, problems in my main nano-reef!

First, an update: back on May 25, 2008, I purchased a small rock with yellow polyps (Parazoanthus) and some orange-eyed zoanthus polyps. Stuff on that rock is growing great. Scary great, but still great. A few days ago, one of my five clusters of Pulsing Xenia seemed to become much more compact, so I moved that out to the center of the aquarium, thinking it needed more light. But now all the others have done the same. Thinking it was something in the water, I changed to a new Aquarium Ph… Continue
